Judy
Watts Swim School evolved in the 70’s specializing in the early development
and safety of babies to pre-schoolers in the aquatic environment.
Having
spent their first nine months in amniotic fluid, babies are already familiar
with the aquatic environment. Movement within the water, from their first
bath to their first swimming lesson, should be a natural extension of this
into a familiarity with water.
Infant
programs are developmentally designed to enhance motor and social skills.
During the lesson, we encourage parents to work on stimulating some of
babies most important senses, touch, vision and audio which strengthens the
bond between baby and parent.
For
children four years and under, our program focuses on building confidence,
mobility and safe pool practices in and around the water. Drowning
statistics show this is the age group most at risk and hence the emphasis on
survival and safety skills.
Judy is
passionate in her belief in the need to educate children and parents on
safety in and around the water. This lead to the development of a safety
program “Cool Pool Rules” and the recent release of a parent education book
“Discovering Water - Babies First Swimming Lessons”. Judy is the author of 6
international videos including AUSTSWIM’s “Infants & Toddlers Explore Water”
and is also an international lecturer on Aquatic Readiness. Her current
project “Aquatic
Movement” is a nurturing program that starts with babies first bath and
then transition to the swimming pool.
